Saving money on your wedding doesn't need to mean that you can't have a beautiful ceremony and reception. There are plenty of ways to stick to your budget and create the wedding you've always dreamed of. Listed below are ten simple ways you can get back to basics on your special day that your wallet will thank you for.

1. Review and Trim your Guest List

A large wedding means that you're paying for a lot of people. Think about who is most important to you, and your significant other. While it can be tempting to invite everyone you know, having less people can give you peace of mind and offer a more intimate setting.

2. Book Another Day Besides Saturday

Saturday is the most popular day to have a wedding, and that means the cost to book a reception site jumps. If possible, attempt choosing a different day. An early Sunday or Friday night wedding is another way to save, and offer more options if you're booking on short notice.

3. Move a few tables around

Changing the tables is fairly simple to do, and it can be a good way to create more or less space as needed. Furthermore, this will allow you to buy or rent fewer centerpieces.

4. Skip the full bar

A signature cocktail with selected beers and wines can save thousands. You can provide guests with a bar menu that will clearly display which beverages are on the house and which they will have to pay for. Try offering the basics such as: wine, tequila, vodka, rum, whiskey and amaretto should satisfy the majority of your guests.

5. Use in season flowers

Flowers are huge cost, but some varieties are much cheaper than others. Ask your florist to recommend ways to save money. You might also want to consider reusing some of the flowers from the ceremony to decorate the reception hall. If you want a modern look, consider renting centerpieces without flowers. Substitute traditional flowers with braches, floating candles and decorative stones.

6. Think about your menu

Hiring a separate catering company can cost a lot. In fact, food is one of the biggest costs in a wedding. Consider the menu offered by il Tulipano if you're looking for quality food at an exceptional cost.

7. Pick a simple cake

A small cake with few decorations can look elegant but it's not expensive. Also stick with simple fillings and avoid exotic flavors. Chocolate and vanilla are usually crowd favorites!

8. Create your own menus and other stationary

Programs, menus, and seating cards are expensive to have printed, but with a bit of creativity they can double as favors. Creating your own invitations could end up being a fun project for you and your significant other. This will also add a personal touch when your guests receive the invitation in the mail.

9. Pare down the other weekend activities

While these can be fun, odds are your wedding party and guests will want some time to themselves. Skip the after-wedding brunch and keep the rehearsal dinner small and intimate.

10. Cut down on your music costs

Instead of hiring a band, choose a DJ that can cater to all of your guests' tastes. If you need a recommendation, we can help!
